JUDI'S ANTHOLOGIES (Contributing Author)

Chicken Soup for the Soul

Chicken Soup for the Soul, Devotional Stories for Tough Times (101 Daily Devotions to Inspire and Support You in Times of Need) - See Judi's story, "Eye to Eye" on page 174.

It starts out like this:

The sun felt warm on my face that day. With autumn in full swing, leaves of every shade of orange, yellow and purple surrounded me in our backyard. Neighboring fields, lawns, and porches displayed big orange pumpkins.

The temperature was just right to work in the yard. I tore out the tomato and pepper plants from our raised bed garden. Even though many plants were still growing, summer was over for me.

Fighting Fear: Winning the War at Home

Fighting Fear: Winning the War at Home (When Your Soldier Leaves for Battle) - See Judi's story, "Unexpected Revelations," on page 63.

It starts out like this:

On Sunday, April 15th, 2007, my husband Rick and I received a phone call from our son, Heath. He was a member of the Virginia National Guard and had called to inform us he'd just received notification that he and his fellow soldiers would be going to Iraq. I immediately had that dull numbness you get when you hear unpleasant news. This kind of news was not a stranger to us. Heath had already served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. At the time of his first deployment in March of 2004, he was a Virginia Tech senior, majoring in mechinal engineering. He ws not alone during this deployment, because along with him were approximately fifty other students who were simultaneously activated. Heath, who had been dating a wonderful Virginia Tech graduate for the past several years, decided that he and Chelsea would marry a mere two weeks before he left for Afghanistan.
